About ComedyFEST

Now in our second year, ComedyFLOPs ComedyFEST is once again bringing big comedy to Ithaca for an affordable price. ComedyFEST follows the 15th Annual Great Downtown Ithaca Chili Cook-off on Feb. 16, with a special ComedyFEST multi-venue pre-party on Friday, February 15th at both Lot 10 Bar and Lounge and at The Gates in Ithaca. ComedyFEST will feature more than 50 stand-up, improv, sketch and musical comedy performers at multiple venues in downtown Ithaca. Ithaca’s own ComedyFLOPs improv comedy troupe will be serving as host, sponsor and performer.

“ComedyFEST features not only veterans of the comedy scene from New York City, Rochester, Syracuse, Binghamton and Ithaca, but also local comedians who may be the next big thing,” said Steve Barry, festival founder and founder of ComedyFLOPs, Ithaca’s community improv troupe.

The Funniest Person in Ithaca contest finals will be the headlining event, with open qualification rounds on Thursday, Jan. 24 at Pixel and Friday, Feb. 1 at Lot 10 Bar and Lounge. Comedians are encouraged to bring 5 minutes of their best material in front of the judges for qualification into the final round. The winner will be awarded a cash prize and a custom trophy.

"There were a lot of really good comics there — most of them far more experienced than I was. Everyone was really funny, and I’m just glad to see that Ithaca has a ton of comedic talent" said Scott Golder, winner of 2012's Funniest Person in Ithaca contest.

In addition to the Funniest Person in Ithaca contest and over 50 comedic performers over two days, ComedyFEST boasts free comedy workshops, to be held during Chili Cook-Off at CSMA. These will be taught by veterans of the comedy scene and will encompass improv, comedy writing, and even a workshop for kids between 8-16. If this wasn't enough, ComedyFLOPs is hosting the official Chili Cook-off After Party from 5pm-8pm on Saturday at Lot 10 featuring a host of stand-up, improv and musical comedy acts.

For 2013, 20 percent of ComedyFEST’s ticket sales will go to support Ithaca’s Community School of Music and Arts, where students of all ages can receive quality instruction in music, dance, theatre and the visual arts. Last year, ComedyFLOPs raised more than $1,200 for Healthy Food for All through ComedyFEST and weekly shows at Lot 10 Bar and Lounge. For more information about CSMA visit: www.csma-ithaca.org.
